I have been a lurker and am now going to be more active (than I have been) on Tribe. I just found out that I have been accepted as a volunteer for an art committee for a community center.

So if anyone is an artist/ performer / performance troupe and your interested in showing your art or performing at an event, send me an email so I can take a list of ideas & suggestions to the next meeting.

The community center is trying out new things and this is one of the new ideas to bring more social stuff to the center; where each month will be a different theme.

Reflections postponed…

Greetings beautiful family,

I am writing to inform the community that Reflections (planned for Memorial Day Weekend), has been postponed. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause anyone. TDK came to the decision to postpone the event until a later date because of various reasons. Professionally, we would like to take the proper time it takes to organize an event such as this. We see that Reflections has the potential to grow every year and feel that we would like to lay the groundwork for this to happen successfully. With the idea that it would draw over 1,000 participants this year, we would like to create a ‘legitimate’ event… find land we can use repeatedly, obtain the proper permits for the event, consult with lawyers about protecting the event, the land it is on, the participants, and TDK…basically take the time to plan the future of Reflections.

Personally, there are many reasons I have made this decision. With ONE just behind me, moving to a new area and other projects on the table, I felt that I could not realistically put a tremendous amount of time and effort into Reflections if it were to be on Memorial Day Weekend. With the dates rapidly approaching, I admitted that there currently was not enough time to create the event I envisioned. I truly believe that it takes a tremendous amount of knowledge and effort to create a memorable event for community activation. The intentions that I have for this community project are becoming clearer to me with each passing day.

I really want to see Reflections grow as a legitimate festival, so I have taken an initiative to educate myself about festivals. I wanted to find out more about festivals, how they operate, and what makes them a success…so, I have now taken a job on the promotional team for the Harmony Festival (aka The Health and Harmony Festival) in Sonoma County. This opportunity has allowed me to be on the team of an event that has drawn over 14,000 people last year & has been operating for 27 years. I am grateful to have the chance to absorb information that will assist us in creating Reflections legitimately. Opening to the experience of learning from many other festivals as well, opportunities are arising to get involved with the west coast festival curcuit…Harmony Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, Reggae on the River, Oregon Country Fair, etc. With the new insights I will obtain, I feel that I will be able to enter the planning of Reflections better equipped, ultimately supporting the growth of Reflections and it’s potential.

Thank you for your understanding. I look forward to future community collaboration for the manifestation of Reflections,

Okay, so, as Kandice would put it, the Universe has not supplied us with our ideal location for Reflections II yet, and we received a phone call from Wolfie that seemed like another door opening. TDK will be running a stage at Alchemy, the Official LA Precomression party, hosted by the folks that brought you Burn on the Fourth of July.

Does this mean we've sold out? No.

Does this mean there will be no Reflections II? Maybe, we haven't decided. If we do hold it, it will be late June in the above mentioned perfect location.

Does this mean that there won't be a Reflections Memorial day event next year? Definitely not. Last year's precomression threw against Forth of Ju-Psy, next year's may be against cinco de Mayo, who knows. But if we CAN get the location we want by next year, we'll do it.

Does this mean that you're looking for talent for your stage? Yes. Drop a line here with your sales pitch if you like, but I'd prefer you send a letter to tdk (at) tedward (dot) org. Send something to Derek too, though I'm not sure where he want's it.

Send:
Band/DJ name
Real names of all in your act.
A description of what you do (music types, pyro, etc).
Your logo if applicable.
Send CD's to Bearclaw: www.bearclawmfg.com/about.html

Will there be Fire Spinning? Maybe. Since the local officials, the venue owners, the Alchemy crew and the guy in charge of the open spin area (me) can all decide to cut off spinning at any time, I'll suggest that you bring your tools, fuels and safety equipment, then check in with me BEFORE you light up. Be ready for a tool check and get a copy of the nafaa safety regs: http://www.nafaa.org/nafaa_safety.html Also, right now, it's kinda looking like you may need to have your own insurance to spin. that's not for sure, but it should be a little motivations to get insured... :)

Aphrodesia’s “Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” Friday, March 11 at the Elbo Room, San Francisco

Aphrodesia, the explosive San Francisco-based afrobeat ensemble that made national headlines last summer by driving cross country in a vegetable oil-powered bus as part of the “Just Vote Tour”, will headline a “Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” on March 11 at the Elbo Room in San Francisco. All the band’s proceeds from the show will go towards its new vegetable oil powered bus, a converted city transit bus from Santa Clarita, California.

Born in San Francisco a little over two years ago, the 11-member Aphrodesia has won national accolades both for its music and its commitment to social activism. The East Bay Express picked the band’s first CD, “Shackrobeat Vol. 1”, as one of its top albums of 2003, and the band’s live performances have earned raves everywhere from the pages of Global Rhythm Magazine to Jambase.com. Meanwhile, the band’s “Just Vote Tour”, a nationwide voter registration-themed tour focusing primarily on swing states and landing in New York City during the Republican National Convention, deposited the band on the cover of USA Today, and the Bay Area-based Common Ground Magazine featured the band on its cover because of its commitment to driving on alternative fuel.

The band’s habit of driving in a vegetable oil-powered vehicle is more than just window dressing. “We want to walk the walk as well as talk the talk,” explains founder and bassist Ezra Gale. “We can’t be anti-war and pro-environment and drive around in a big petroleum-fueled tour bus,” he adds.

Aphrodesia’s old bus, a converted airport shuttle bus nicknamed the “Votemobile” for the cross-country ‘Just Vote Tour’, carried the band at least 10,000 miles solely on vegetable oil. The band plans to continue that tradition in its new bus, which is equipped with 300-gallon vegetable oil tanks and is considerably better suited to carrying a band of Aphrodesia’s size. To help pay the costs of the new bus and of converting it to run on vegetable oil, the band is throwing a “Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” at the Elbo Room on March 11, with all proceeds going towards the cost of the new bus.

“Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” featuring Aphrodesia with DJ Oaty Love, Friday, March 11, at the Elbo Room, 647 Valencia,, SF, (415) 552-7788, 10PM- 2 AM; $7-$20 donation requested.

Curtis was a BIG part of Reflections this past year!! he brought love and songs, and energy and friends together, and elecktra and strawberry and the ballyhoo bistro to la!! please help him!!! he needs our love, support and money!

Dear Friends,

Our best friend is dying, We are sad as hell, and we are asking for your help. Now is the time to show that “community ”and “connections ”mean a lot more than just bopping around at late-night parties together.

Our friend ’s name is Curtis Coleman. He gives a lot to the world, and we desperately need what he gives. Last year, he was the nation ’s most popular elementary school entertainer, reaching tens of thousands of young kids through song to teach them about safety, public spirit, and most importantly, that they have a voice. We need our children to find their voice.

Curtis now has no voice, fighting an aggressive cancer in his throat called squamous cell carcinoma. Soon Curtis will have neck dissection surgery, plus aggressive radiation & chemo. On paper his chances of survival are less than 1 in 4, but cancer victims facing far worse odds have been “miraculously ”cured when enough people came together to make it happen. We do amazing things together within our respective families, so please, please participate in saving Curtis ’life and prove we can do amazing things together within our community.

So many of you know Curtis, are stunned by this news, and have already asked how you can help. Some of Curtis ’closest friends have put together a plan of action we hope everyone connected to Curtis in any way will participate in. We need three things immediately for Curtis: money, time, and love.

Money: Curtis has no insurance, and the most promising medical treatments aren ’t covered by the county ’s last resort coverage. If everyone that sees this gives up a couple lattes and contributes at least $10 or more if you can, we ’ll be on our way to giving Curtis the best chance possible at life. Please help as much as you can RIGHT NOW by using Paypal –the long link is after this paragraph. If it doesn ’t work go to www.Paypal.com and enter account number friendsofcurtis@yahoo.com. Or, send a check to 1142 Garfield Ave, San Jose CA 95125. All donations will go to the Friends of Curtis Foundation.

Paypal link: www.paypal.com/xclick/bus...s=friendsofcurtis%40yahoo.com&item_name=Friends+of+Curtis&cn=Note+To+Curtis%3A&tax=0&currency_code=USD&lc=US

Time: Curtis ’girlfriend Andi needs help to cope with the huge burden of caring for Curtis over the months to come. If you can help with time for finding treatments, delivering an anti-cancer diet, transportation, lots of social visits, a mailing list, or even household tasks like mowing the lawn it would be tremendously helpful. Contact FriendsOfCurtis@yahoo.com and you ’ll find out that when you reach your hand out to someone that needs it, your hand never comes back empty.

Love: Whether or not you can help with time or money, you can help with love in so many ways. Visualize the tumors melting away into nothing, and a healthy Curtis making hundreds of kids a day laugh and learn again with his unique talent and beautiful voice. Put Curtis in your prayer circles, or your altars, or whatever connects your energy to the universe. Radiation is powerful medicine, but the love force of many can change the world. Help change the world now through one man that has touched so many of us and our children.

Ok, right now, just do it! Send at least $10, figure out how else you can help, and send a prayer. Then please forward this letter to everyone in your tribe and email lists with a personal note about how you are connected to Curtis, and ask them to participate in supporting my lifelong friend. Stand up for what is good in the world by asking everyone you know to help. Check out www.FriendsOfCurtis.com that will be set up soon. And thank you for the love. We are all in this together, and grateful for your help.

Arthur & elecktra

Hoopy Huladays fabulous family!

Great news! Our LA/SB/SF family has another opportunity to show our support for Alex Grey www.AlexGrey.com and his Chapel of Sacred Mirrors http://www.cosm.org/index.html. This fundraising event, “ONE” will take place the first weekend of March 05’ in Hollywood.

I am currently looking for a production team, sound systems, lighting, decor and various talents...DJs, bands, (fire)dance troopes, hoping groups, ariel/flyers, stilt walkers, artists, poets, massage therapists etc. This will be an all-night, indoor event with Alex Grey (and family) creating a sacred space with their poetry, spoken word, and visual art.

Like Reflections 2004 (www.LABurn.com), “ONE” will be a fundraiser, thus, all participation will be considered a gift to Alex Grey, his family, and The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. The COSM is a place for non-denominational worship and introspection of the infinite possibilities created when one realizes their connection to THE ONE. I support any avenue that may help to open the doors to true equality amongst all beings on Mother Earth, and I feel that COSM is one of them.

If you are an educator, a talented/visionary artist, an activist, an environmentalist, a conscience consumer, an inspiration, or one of the transcended...perhaps this project will align with your higher self's ideals and goals. So, PLEASE, consider being a part of this community vision for achieving a better tomorrow.
Uniting our national community with divine love in my heart,

Greetings Party People!!!!

Rev Dave Warden here from the world's greatest rave/rock/psychedellic/lounge/punk band THE SEROTONINS. Scrawling this note out in the 20 min of free time I have between my hour drive home and my weekly 7 hour session with Inger The Ambiguous Call Girl. Got to get out one quick letter to the party posse before a 6foot 9inch Puerto Rican sex goddess has me covered in lubricants and human love effluent and I can't touch the G-4 no more.

THE SEROTONINS are once again playing the world famous VIPER ROOM in West Hollywood, SATURDAY AUGUST 14th @ 10:30 P.M. Another walk on the wild side with the fine people of the Rainbow Coalition and the Yuppie-Rocker denizens of the world's gayest town. Our last show at The Viper was filled with classic rock n roll action due to an early sell out, psycho-stalker fans, light moshing and a few ejections from the venue early in the performance. The Special Ed tourbus was mobbed with a motley crew of burners, bikers and booty burgulars and there was much groopie-groping and warm liquor to be
had. Speaking of THE ORIGINAL BOOTY BURGLARS they will be closing the night out with their own special brand of Booty Piracy and I will try not to hump them....it is okay however if you want to try to hump them.

THE SEROTONINS Live In Concert!!!!!!!!
Saturday, August 14th @ THE VIPER ROOM
10:30pm
8852 Sunset Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA

For a full Weekend of Rave/Rock and for all our friends in Orange County and San Diego we have a show at the best Rock-Bar South of the Orange Curtain in Lake Forest @ THE GYPSY LOUNGE. FRIDAY AUGUST 13th @ 10:30pm.

The Gypsy Lounge
23600 Rockfield Blvd. Suite 3A
Lake Forest, CA 92630
949-206-9990

Come out and have a cocktail w/ us as we Rave/Rock our way to serious inebriation and memories that will last for a few days...if you can remember anything at all.

Props Out To My Homies In Lock-Down and all of The S.D. Burners!

When: Friday 9/3/04 10p.m.-ish to ???

note: Seeing as The Nautulus is almost full of participants, I am trying to nail down another art car for this excursion. If anyone has any suggestions, please contact me. Otherwise, some of us should bring our bikes and we can take turns riding the art car and riding on a bike along side it.

Also, a Holistic Hooping (fire)hoop workshop at Brane or Conclave Convergence is still in the works.

Hey Folks! The last Valley Firedrum was a huge success. There were so many Firedancers that we ran out of Fuel. LOL But seriously if you didn't show you missed a hell of a event. We initiated 6 new first time Fire Dancers ( Kat, Kevin, Ricky & the other 3 whose names I didn't catch welcome to the club). Clay took some awesome awesome Picts & will have them up soon. We end the gigs with little mini work shops. Those who learn to spin at the 1st valley FireDrum Fired up for the first time at this last VFD. Sparkles where were you? Me & Tina missed you. Luv your Energy brotha. Eric you still blow me away. I learn so much staff from this guy & I am the one who got him to spin fire for the first time a month ago. He's hooked. Those looking for a awesome new Fire Dancer for your Troupe should recruit this guy. Eric works the graveyard shift at Hot Spots in Santa Barbara. His long practice in Wushu really came in handy. Look forward to seeing my friend Daniel with his Fire Juggling at the next event. There were several other Fire Dancers whose names I didn't get, thanks for coming & hope you come to the next VFD. My friend Clay is my co-promoter & our host as its on his small ranch I like to thank for helping make this possible & hope he keeps this up after I'm gone. But I'm sure his Girl Jesse, our local Valley Duchess of Fire will not let him slack off. She's enjoying having all these new playmates.
And I can't forget Tina! You Rock Sister! Tina will be taking over as Co-promoter with Clay as I have fallen deeply in Love & am moving & getting married. Clay's Ranch is up high over looking the Valley so Tina has started calling VFD "Fire on the Mountain". We will be holding one more "Fire on the Mountain" aka VFD before Burning Man which I will be at before I move to Texas. Yes Texas. :p Hey theres Burners there & its only temporary then Me & my Girl will be moving to Oregon. Anyway keep an eye out for the next event. Tina will keep you all up to date. If you message Tina with your contact info she will add you to her growing list she has & let you know wazzup. Anyway, I'm out of here. Hope to see you at either the "Fire on the Beach" 1st Friday in Ventura or the "Fire on the Mountain" the 3 Friday in Santa Ynez Valley. Peace Out!

Especially with Tina representing Ventura, Sparkles representing SB & me & Clay representing the Santa Ynez Valley, next "Valley FireDrum" should prove to be bigger & funner. Is that possible? I don't know. You'll have to show up to find out. July 16th will be the next one & ever 3rd Friday of each month. Same directions. Spin Fire? Bring your toys. Play Drums? Bring your Djembe. Have neither? Then bring yourself. You are the most important part anyway. We like to have some S.L.O. Family come in so we cover the whole 805. If you can't wait, come join us in Ventura next Friday, July 2nd & every 1st Friday of the month for Tina's "Fire on the Beach" get together. Next to the Holiday Inn on the Beach. Be sure to bring your toys & drums as well. Oh and bring firewood if you can. We can have fires on the beach. Hope to see you all there!
>
> Friends,
>
> These are some private journaled notes originally
> shared between TDK and THE GiViNG TREE for their
> inclusion in a joint purpose doctrine to be added to
> our mission statement and sent out as a mass e-mail:
>
> Let's have a peek inside the wardrobe together. Shall
> we?
> ------------------------------
>
> A personal vision of TDK and THE GiViNG TREE in the
> Creation of The LA Freedom Festival.
>
> Chapter 1
> ReflectionS
> Memorial Day Weekend
> May 29-31, 2004
>
> On the spring eqinox of 2003 we met on a dry Mojave
> lake bed. It was here, at the intimate Burning Woman,
> we were taught the practical application of an old
> magic called 'GiFTiNG'. Its power derives from the
> lifting up of those souls around us who we observe
> needing nourishment. The potent and active ingredient
> in 'GiFTiNG' can be appropriately called 'LOVE'.
>
> It's easy...
>
> and yet still easier to forget...
>
> ReflectionS was an exercise in this ancient Art.
> The Art of Alex Grey gave us the REASON and led to the
> iDEA.
>
> The iDEA was to create a non-profit event
> That would seek to raise a fund
> To commission a work of ART
> From an Artist we vote to HONOR
> In celebration of their PASSiON
> And in recognition of their social and cultural
> CONTRiBUTiON.
>
> The commissioned ARTwork will then be customarily
> GiFTED by the ARTIST to the community who help to
> create the event. This community is called THE GiViNG
> TREE. Then, during a 'GiFTING Ceremony', One
> individual community member will be selected to be the
> custodian and care-taker of the ARTWORK for one
> seasonal period.
>
> Every equinox and solstice this 'GiFTiNG Ceremony'
> will take place. At this ceremony, a new custodian
> will be nominated and THE GiViNG TREE body will attend
> to determine the next ARTiST to honor.
>
> With the passing of each new season the gallery will
> grow and the collection will pass honorably from hand
> to nominated hand until a time when a permanent home
> can be created for this expanding collection.
>
> Then, the ART will be relinquished to this gallery.
> All past custodians will be offered partial caretaker
> assignments/responsibilities of the gallery's
> collection. This stewardship appointment will be of
> the highest honor.
>
> The gallery will never seek for profit, but only to
> maintain and expand the contents of its institution.
>
> It shall be free to the public.
>
> It shall be an art gallery given to, from, and for the
> people.
>
> In the process we're gonna throw a hell of a lot of
> good parties!
>
> But always non-profit.
>
> All honoring the Giving Artist in every one of us.
>
> So, What Is THE GiViNG TREE?
>
> THE GiViNG TREE is you!
>
> To be made aware of all future events, e-mail us your
> contact info at:
>
> tdk@laburn.com
>
> Thank You!

I invited my neighbor,Les, he's a karate mater and shiatsu massage person and he had the best time. He fixed my back too! He has never been exposed to this culture and it was good to see him meet new people and make deep connections with others that are on the same path. BTW,he has decided to go to BM. Water, food, gear, sunscreen, bug spray, etc. will all be necessary to assure guest safety and happiness. So, what do you think? There are various classes, workshops, lectures, and ambient/downtempo DJs thus far in this area and I am looking for more. This area is for educational purposes, bringing consious-minded ideas and discussions to this unique event. If you or a friend would like to participate in this event in this capacity, please contact Kandice of TDK at Cannabis@DesertTrance.com and tell me what you would like to do. You would be able to get into the event for the low price of $10 if you contribute something to this area. Hoopin' to get some yummy community education brewing, Kandice

Many people have called and written to ask me what is going on with Burning Woman this year. Burning Woman was a free event held on a dry lake bed in Mojave desert on the Spring Equinox in 2003. It was meant to bring together leaders of various communities that otherwise may not be associated. Our intentions were to share the love of the desert and our community's ideals with others, each benefiting from each other's stories. There were various workshops, classes, and lectures attended by the participants...including a hoop aerobics class, a Venus mudd-sculpturing workshop, and an environmental awareness lecture. Music and dance were essential ingredients for this particular event, culminating in a fire show frenzy and the burning of a 30-ft Venus sculpture.

One particular Burning Woman guest, Derek Milner, wrote me several e/mails inquiring about this year's Burning Woman. I told him that is wasn't going to happen this year, due to reasons beyond my control. Besides, we were not able to use the name either, and I didn't see the point in fighting a fight over something like a name. And Derek told me 'screw the name, call it something else, just do it'! Then, Derek reminded me of a story that he told me at BW last year...he calls it his 'ring of God' story. In a nut shell- he was spinning some glowing poi and the glow braclet fell of the poi and went rolling across the playa. He followed it almost a mile, until it stopped right in front of a path on the edge of the playa. He followed the path and found a patch of wildflowers, sat down amongst them, and had a conversation with God. And, God told him to acknowledge all of the talents he gave him and by all means, use them! Derek accredits his job and band success this past year to that experience.

Being re-told this story put a fire under my ass, literally. It reminded me that I have certain gifts and I have certain, beautiful, community leaders as friends for a reason. I feel that I am called to create community events, with sacred, tribal, consious intentions behind them. I know that I have all of the resources to do so in my life for a reason, and I want to continue with this mission. My friend Tedward is a powerful community leader that creates spaces for groups of people to gather as well. He and I have worked on several projects together, including Burning Woman. Not only do we work well together, but we have a lot in common, such as being misunderstood at times. But, we are both moving forward positively in our lives and in our community, continuing with the work that we feel called to do. In turn, the three of us... Tedward, Derek, and Kandice decided to throw a new event, one that will benefit the artistic community on all levels. Hence, the creation of ReflectionS. You can find out more about the event, it's goals and intentions at www.LABurn.com.
